How about having white teeth for a lifetime? That’s right! We want you to keep your teeth white for life. After your Zoom2! power whitening treatment, you will be given custom whitening trays and complimentary whitening gel.
Do you need brighter teeth? Many times, a simple in-office whitening treatment is all you need to improve your smile. Everyone enjoys the rejuvenating feeling of seeing a bright, white smile. Teeth whitening has become the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure offered. Whitening treatments performed at your dentist’s office present almost instant gratification. With just a comfortable hour in your dentist chair, years of stain and yellowing vanish. The procedure is quick and effective, and most patients are amazed at the results. A common question after treatment is how long does it last? The answer is forever, with a few steps and maintenance on your part.
Teeth Whitening Consultation
Before deciding whether Zoom2! in-office teeth whitening is right for you, your dental hygienist and one of our prosthodontists will conduct a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to ensure proper health. They will also discuss your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine if you will benefit from whitening. This will help you and your dentist agree on the whitening product or technique that’s best for you.
While most patients have no sensitivity, people with extreme tooth sensitivity may feel small nerve pain a few hours after treatment. These little zings will go away in a few hours and should not cause any alarm. If you have extremely sensitive teeth, talk to your dentist or hygienist before the procedure. We have a variety of desensitizing treatments that can be used before and after the procedure. If you are a patient who feels the sensitivity, relax. We have everything available to make sure your teeth can be as white as possible without any pain at all.
Your dentist may also require you to undergo tooth whitening if you are planning other cosmetic dental procedures, such as veneers, composite bonding or braces removal. This will ensure a better match between the restoration and the shade of your natural teeth. Depending on the condition of your teeth and your goals for changing the look of your smile, tooth whitening may not be your best option.
During your consultation and evaluation, your dentist will note existing dental work, such as dental crowns and veneers, which will not respond to conventional whitening agents. These issues will be addressed before your whitening appointment. In our office, we recommend that two weeks before your whitening treatment you use a desensitizing tooth paste to minimize any sensitivity that may occur immediately after treatment.
Zoom2! Whitening Procedure – What to Expect.
The complete procedure takes less than an hour, but a regular teeth cleaning is recommended prior to the actual Zoom2! teeth whitening session. The whitening process begins with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving the teeth exposed. One of our doctors or dental assistants then applies the Zoom2! hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, which works together with the Zoom2! light to penetrate the teeth and break up stains and discoloration.
The gel remains in place for 15 minutes while the light is activated. During this time, you can relax, read a magazine and listen to music. Our assistants will watch your progress and make sure you are comfortable during the entire procedure. The gel is applied for three 15-minute sessions of light activation, for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. Immediately afterward, a sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste-gel is applied to the teeth.
Aftercare – How to Keep Your Teeth White for Life!
You will be given a Zoom2! touch-up kit for home use that includes custom-fitted whitening trays. This is a complimentary gift to you from our office. We also would like to assist you as you maintain your new bright smile. At every scheduled dental hygiene appointment, you will be given two free applications of whitening gel. Use once or twice a month (or per the recommendation of your dental hygienist) for a few hours, and your teeth will stay white for life! Follow the instructions given by your dentist and hygienist for proper use of this touch-up kit.
To help maintain the whitening effects of your Zoom2! teeth whitening treatment, it is advised that you avoid certain foods and beverages, or consume them in moderation to avoid staining your teeth. This includes tea, coffee, red wine or cola.
Additionally, tobacco products will stain teeth, even after whitening treatments. As such, your dentist will suggest you quit using them. It is important to maintain an appropriate oral hygiene regimen (brushing and flossing) to prevent stains from reforming. Visiting your dentist and hygienist regularly for scheduled teeth cleanings is also required. Toothpaste containing whitening agents may be suggested by your dentist to maintain the results of the procedure.
